Three Spruce Studios Honeycrisp Cranberry Compote
A tangy and sweet homemade compote made with fresh cranberries, Honeycrisp apples, and maple syrup. Perfect for waffles, French toast, and more!
Ingredients
- 16 oz fresh cranberries
- 2 medium Honeycrisp apples, diced
- 2-3 tablespoons maple syrup
- Water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the cranberries
Add 16 oz of fresh cranberries to a small saucepan and fill with water until the cranberries are just covered.
Step 2: Boil the cranberries
Place the saucepan on a burner set to medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring as needed. You may start to see and hear cranberries popping as the water heats up.
Step 3: Add apples
Once the water starts to boil, add the diced Honeycrisp apples and reduce the heat to medium-low.
Step 4: Simmer the compote
Allow the compote to reduce for 30-45 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
Step 5: Add maple syrup
Add two tablespoons of maple syrup to the compote and stir to combine. If it isn't sweet enough for your taste, add another tablespoon of maple syrup.

Step 6: Serve the compote
Turn off the heat and spoon your compote into a ramekin. Serve on your waffle board alongside waffle sections and other toppings like diced apples with caramel sauce, dried cranberries, diced bacon, fig jam, fresh fruit, and French toast croutons.
